Site Supervisor I - Head Start Preschool

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor II, the Site Supervisor I will be responsible for the operation of their site in accordance with all applicable policies and regulations, the supervision of assigned staff and the duties of a teacher as outlined in the teacher job description.
Key Areas of Responsibilities and Duties
Program Services/Operations (85%)
Responsible for day-to-day center operations (oversight of teachers, cook, housekeeper) including, planning, carrying out activities, maintaining the classroom environment, supervising children, parent/teacher conferences, supervision of classroom volunteers and overall maintenance of center
Responsible for implementation of area plans
Responsible for maintaining compliance with Performance Standards, Community Care Licensing and State Regulations
Manages staff scheduling and coverage
Ensures compliance with screening and assessment requirements
Educational Curriculum (7%)
Implements and monitors program curriculum, ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
Works with Children's Services Manager in development of curriculum, classroom environments and development of education forms including lesson plans, individual learning plans, home visit and conference forms and additional forms as appropriate
Includes parents in curriculum planning and overall program involvement
Trains staff in curriculum implementation
Supervision and Employee Development (8%)
Responsible for completing performance appraisals for staff members ensuring appropriate time frames are met
Provides input into annual salary planning
Mentors/coaches staff to improve individual performance and overall service provided at the sites
Guides staff in the development and implementation of professional growth plans
Provides training in all areas of the teacher and associate teacher job description
Promotes team collaboration with all staff at center
Addresses concerns through corrective action process
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Child Development Site Supervisor Permit
AA (or 60 units) with; 24 semester units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development (Infant/Toddler must have 6 Infant/toddler units)
6 units of Administration
2 units of Adult Supervision
2 years of experience working with infants/toddlers and/or preschool age children within the past four years
A minimum of 2 years experience supervising adults
California Health and Safety Certificate
Skills
Have experience working effectively with minority and low-income families and adults at all levels of the socioeconomic structure of the community
Possess knowledge of the needs of rural children and their families
Interacts with children and is able to relate to them in a supportive and non-judgmental way in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards
Be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written or oral form
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide - compute percentages
Ability to express, exchange ideas in proper English (bilingual preferred - Spanish/English) and work cooperatively with staff, clients, and community from varied backgrounds and experiences
Possess the ability to read a variety of materials such as work procedures and safety rules. Write reports, record observations, and document conversations with proper spelling, grammar, and format
Capability to meet deadlines and work under tight-time schedules
Must portray a positive attitude towards children, families, and staff
Capacity to function as a team player/member
Ability to react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs
Work Environment
The work environment consists of: 75% of work time in a classroom divided by activity areas consisting of furniture and materials designed for preschool children. 25% of work time outdoors in a playground designed for preschool children. Playground contains uneven surfaces including cement, gravel, grass, sand, and dirt. Playground equipment necessitates climbing up and down slide or other apparatuses to assist or retrieve child. Outdoor environment can range from seasonal cold and snow to heat and bodily discomfort from the weather. Office space includes standard size counters, tables, and desks. Storage shelving from ground level to ceiling. Automobile travel locally and out-of-area, year round, under all weather conditions. Clients' homes, which include all types of environments, many non-handicap accessible.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Must be agile enough to perform the job of teaching small children: able to walk, run, climb, bend, reach, etc
Be able to stand up for up to 7 hours at a time and sit for up to one hour at a time
Special Requirements
Valid California Driver's License and reliable vehicle
Proof of current automobile insurance coverage
Criminal background clearance as required by licensing agency and funders
Physical Examination, proof of a negative TB test, immunizations required by Community Care Licensing and current influenza shot
Willingness to work irregular hours, attend night meetings, and travel as agency business requires


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
